The Source took part in the "Dance Single" phenomenon of the 1980's. Everybody from The Gang Of Four to Bruce Springsteen eventually gave it a shot, so, why not The Source. It was a way to get a little more outside and creative and still hopefully sell a few records. Though they recorded two dance singles, only one was released. It was a unique version of Yoko Ono's "Give Me Something". It was released in 1985 and actually got some play in west coast dance clubs, most notably in San Francisco. In 1986 they recorded an ambitious dance rendition of The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter". It was the brainchild of Source member Jeff Kerekes. It included 3 incredibly talented black female vocalists, some very tasty "orchestra-like" synth keyboards from good friend Mike Sampsel, and a rather amateurish (but heartfelt) first time recording of Source member Jack Wyles on soprano sax. All in all, The Source could never be accused of not going for it! The group split up, however, before "Gimme Shelter" could be released.
